Show Me Something Interesting...

Diane Bish, Organ, Bach, Sinfonia, Cantata 29
Diane Bish, Organist
OK folks, here is one of my favourite pieces of Organ Music to brighten your morning (or afternoon or evening, depending on what time you are reading this).

Played at breakneck speed by the awesome Diane Bish, the piece is J.S. Bach's Sinfonia from Cantata No. 29,  "Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir" (We thank you, God, we thank you).

The Cantata was written in 1739, in Leipzig, to commemorate the installation of a Town Council at Leipzig. The Sinfonia (the first section of the Cantata) started life as the Violin Partita #3 in E (BWV 1006) which Bach amended for Orchestra. This version is for Organ only.

The video was taken from her TV show, The Joy of Music, where she would travel the world, playing on some of the oldest and best Organs, bringing the "King of Instruments" to the attention of a new generation of music lovers. Notice the way in which Bish creates the diminuendo, by using both the volume pedal and the depression, one by one, of the stops.

Well done Diane Bish for all your hard work, and thanks to vinniecaruso for uploading this video.
